Chafer Machinery Ltd (incorporating its trading division Horstine) is a growing engineering business specialising in the Design, development, assembly, and support of agricultural machinery. Chafer produces technologically advanced crop spraying equipment while Horstine supplies a range of highly accurate seed, chemical and fertiliser application systems.

The Role

We are expanding our production capacity to meet strong customer demand and are looking for enthusiastic and skilled people for a machine assembly role in both our Chafer and Horstine departments. The position will be assembling machinery to customer specifications. This will include tasks such as: assembly of plumbing of various types, running and connecting of electrical harnesses, building of hydraulic manifolds & routing of hoses, and assembling of precision metering units to form a complete machine ready for testing. For the right candidate there is also potential to progress within the company.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team providing help and assistance as required. Initiative to work alone also desirable.
  • Meticulous attitude in relation to quality, precision, and final finish.
  • Communicate in a friendly manner with fellow team members.
  • Experienced in mechanical fitting (using hand tools).
  • A good understanding of time management and working to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings.
  • A proactive approach to continues improvement, following company procedures in place.
  • Ability to accurately assemble machines, parts, or sub-assemblies to given drawings.
  • Fabricate simple brackets and solutions without drawings.
  • Be aware of health and safety for yourself and colleagues.
  • Desire to learn new skills and knowledge. (Training provided)

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with hydraulics and low voltage electrics, including fault finding.
  • Forklift licence and/or Telehandler.
  • Experience in contributing towards product improvement processes.

Hours – 38 hours per week. Monday 8.00am – 4.30pm Tuesday-Friday 8.00am-4.00pm. Weekday overtime may occasionally be available when needed.

Pay – Between £20,607 and £28,215, Negotiable dependant on experience

Holidays – 24 days holiday per year, plus bank holidays
